The industrial visit to Vapi was an enriching experience for me and all the students who got to understand the entire process manufacturing units and how a Mega-plant works to maintain its large outputs in a day.

As an integral and compulsory part of the ECube Global engineering College, Students had to go on an industrial visit which lasted two
Day’s altogether. We visited a variety of companies, ranging from

  • Ø  Spect vision, manufacturer of  Spectacles and tools  ,
  • Ø  Shah Containers, Manufacturer of Corrugated  Boxes,
  • Ø  India Gelatine & Chemicals Ltd, The gelatin manufacturer,
  • Ø  Jay chemicals, the paint pigmentation producer and finally
  • Ø  Filter Machines Pvt Ltd, manufacturer of filter press, plastic pallets, Filter media and PP filter elements.

This industrial visit provided an insight on how industries (big and small industries) work and also useful information related to the course which cannot be visualized in lectures, such
As the mechanical testing machines used in Plants which we learnt about but never saw. However this did not seem quite obvious at the beginning of the trip. Personally the whole visit was a very good experience and lot of fun which I would have regretted if I missed. So this is how we spent the time for the trip:

Day 1: 21st October
We set off quite early in the morning with two of the teaching Faculties
Mr. Alok Roy and Ms Veena Badiger and 10 students; All of us were excited and looking forward to the trip and others like me were sleepy given the time which was about seven. There were two coaches and there were 7 of us on one coach.
We finally arrived at Spect vision at Vapi at 11.30. We were all escorted to the factory by Mr. Bharat Gajjar, owner of Spect Vision, a Spectacle manufacturing company.
Mr. Gajjar, a very humble and kind person, he by himself escorted all of us to the manufacturing unit. We were given a talk on the company, and the whole process of manufacturing Spectacles was very clearly explained by Mr. Bharat to all of us.

Back on the coach, we all set to Ras Resorts, After checking in and unpacking on arrival at the  Ras Resorts, one of the beautiful resorts at Silvassa, had our buffet lunch and moved into our rooms to relax for a while, at 3:30 we all set to visit Shah Containers Pvt Ltd, manufacturer of Corrugated boxes, sheets and rolls, at 4:00 we all reached the Factory, Mr. Deepen K. Gosrani, the director of the company took us through his factory, where we all got to see how the carton boxes are manufactured, a complete manual process.

At 5:00 o’clock we headed back to Ras Resorts.
We went for dinner at the restaurant. At the hotel,
Because we were all exhausted we went to bed early after a few games dumb shards.

Day 2: 22nd October
After a nice breakfast in the morning, check out from the resorts and we set off again at 9: 30 arriving at
India Gelatine & Chemicals Ltd, the chemical factory, where we were given a tour of the factory.
On reaching the plant at 10:30AM, students were accompanied by
Mr. Naresh Nanda, the Vice President-Operations, to the Conference room, where he explained the whole process of how gelatin is manufactured with the help of flow diagrams. At the plant gave a brief presentation about the history of India Gelatine & Chemicals Ltd and the manufacturing process.  Mr. Naresh Nanda interacted with the students and answered their queries regarding gelatin industry on the whole and some of its products. The students were then taken to the processing unit where all the stages from cleaning to the end process of manufacturing. Students were amazed at the speed at which the process occurred and how the automated systems could be set according to requirements. On a whole, it was an exemplary learning experience that the students will savor for a long time to come.

We all then set to visit Jay chemicals; the end product of the company is the paint pigmentation.

Then we all were hungry as it was half past 1, we all opted for Gujarati thali at Thoral, amazing food!!!!!, Awu Jo! Is what the people of restaurant say when we the satisfied customers bang the gong at the hotel, we all took the privilege to bang the gong one after the other for 14 times just to shout
AWU  JO!!!!!!!!!!!! With the people at the hotel

It was a good experience altogether and each company we visited contributed to a part in understanding the course better. We got to see many machines on an industrial scale, some of which I had only learnt
about in lectures and never actually seen. It is easier to visualize and hence understand the different production and testing techniques for materials, now that I have seen some. It is fascinating and added to my general
knowledge. The whole trip also gave me an idea of how it is like in the materials field. On a personal level, it improved my relationship with my existing students and I also got to know other students whom I never actually had a proper conversation with.
I was amazed by how much I enjoyed these few days which turned out to be
educational and yet so much fun, given my earlier reservations about the trip. Not surprisingly, on my way back I wished the trip had been longer and was sad that it was all over!

Many Thanks to ALL THE STUDENTS who were wonderful!
